The homilies and catechesis are presented as a unit. The format is “Kerygmatic” i.e. Jesus who was crucified, died and buried, is alive, in our midst. This is the apostolic proclamation of the Risen Lord, the foundation of our faith, which we celebrate every Sunday and in every Eucharist. The catechesis is based on the Sunday Readings and the Gospel, viz. a ‘lectionary-based catechesis.’

The courses and details of this catechesis for the children, adolescents and RCIA, are provided in special folders by the coordinators of the parish at St. Mary’s Church, Pietermaritzburg. The approach is based on the whole TRADITION of the Church, viz. Scripture, Liturgy, Doctrine and Witness. Witnessing here includes expediting the teachings of the Church, especially with regards to its mission and evangelization. Other aspects of the catechesis include ‘Life experience’, ‘Stories’ and academic research.
